How can we attract millennials?

A Modern Mindset

Most Millennials profess belief in God, yet many are reluctant to join organized religions. How should we attract them?

Some Millennials have been alienated by unfortunate church scandals, such as child molestation by priests or corruption by televangelists. We must be open to discussing these problems honestly, but also vigilant about modeling our own morality.

Young people must be invited to participate actively in their communities—and not simply invited to prayer and study groups. Presenting salient issues--such as poverty, homelessness, or environmental degradation--as service projects will channel their energy and inherent idealism in positive ways.

Millennials are the most diverse generation. They have grown up with an openness to various cultures and lifestyles. They find hypocrisy in religions that demonstrate non-acceptance of ANY subgroups for ethnic, religious, or gender orientation reasons. We, too, must embrace diversity--and be wary of promoting leaders with xenophobic or homophobic agendas.
