About Us

What do we do?

Like members of other faith communities, we gather regularly to pray, study and enjoy fellowship.

Like Baha’is around the world, we in Washoe County are learning how to live in peace and harmony, which Bahá’ís believe is the next step of humanity’s collective life on earth. We work locally towards that goal through a systematic approach by:

  • offering children’s classes that cultivate spiritual virtues without advocating any specific religion

  • supporting youth groups to uphold justice and encouraging them to engage in community service projects that release enormous energies for societal transformation.

  • participating in training curriculum that develops our capacity to serve our communities with purpose.

  • engaging in prayer with individuals of diverse faith traditions to implore Gods’ assistance in all our endeavors.

Who are we?

We are Bahá’ís, followers of Bahá’u’lláh, the Prophet Founder of the Bahá’í Faith. Bahá’u’lláh, whose name means Glory of God, is recognized as the latest in a series of Divine Messengers that have come from God to guide humanity since beyond recorded history. This line of Messengers includes Abraham, Moses, Buddha, Zoroaster, Christ and Muhammad. Through this principle of the oneness of religion, Bahá’u’lláh reaffirms the fundamental truths and ethics common to all religions.

Like each of the past Messengers who came in previous dispensations, Bahá’u’lláh has also revealed new laws and teachings. In this new dispensation, He provides guidance for humanity to build a peaceful and unified global society. Through the principle of the oneness of humanity, which is at the heart of Bahá’u’lláh’s mission, Bahá’ís strive to put into practice the concept that humanity is one single race and to give practical expression to Bahá’u’lláh ’s vision of world unity.
