A Program

honoring the

200th Anniversary

of the

Birth of Bahá’u’lláh

On Sunday afternoon, October 22nd, over 150 Bahá’ís and guests joined in the celebration at the McKinley Arts and Cultural Center in Reno.

The program opened with Emcee, David Meares reciting a Unity Prayer revealed by Bahá’u’lláh. It featured Persian chanting and singing by Roya Galata, who was accompanied by guitarist, Navid Forootan. A Paiute Tribal prayer was recited by American Indian Spirituality Scholar, Brian Melendez. Innovations High School provided a sound engineer and a band quartet that performed a moving ballad in exchange for stage PA and sound system for the program. The McPhersons, a family vocal group sang a cappella arrangements and concluded the program leading the standing crowd in singing and clapping.

Former member of the Bahá’í National Spiritual Assembly, William E. Davis, was guest speaker. His career has covered 45 years working in the field of justice at the state, federal and international level. Mr. Davis shared Bahá’u’lláh’s life story and His acceptance of imprisonment and exile for 40 years to establish His mission of peace and tranquility for an ailing world. Donna Sosnowski provided activities for the children during the Speaker’s portion of the program. The activities were designed to inform them about the Birth of Bahá’u’lláh.

After the program, attendees enjoyed refreshments and fellowship together. Marj Williams of Washoe County, member of the Planner’s Committee, was in charge of refreshments, which included beverages, sandwiches, eclairs, savory fruit kabobs, and cookies presented around a birthday cake centerpiece. The cake was baked and specially designed by the Atlantis Hotel catering. The delicious treats were served to guests by members of the Inter-Community Holy Day Committee and were totally consumed.
